Russian Red

Russian Red Garlic Display

(Available for Seed and Gourmet)

Russian Red is a Purple Stripe garlic with a rich, musky, garlicky flavor and is very hot when eaten raw. When cooked into a dish, there will be no mistaking the presents of garlic, but it will not be overpowering since cooking takes some taste out, but leaves all the aroma. These garlic grow very large in the cold Alberta climate, but their shorter shelf life means they need to be grown with other varieties to provide year round garlic at it's peak. This variety will produce 5-8 cloves in a bulb.

Mexican Purple

Our Mexican Purple grew very well in 2024, when we first tested this variety. Mexican purple has a higher clove count; 10-14 cloves per bulb are common. These smaller cloves can pack a punch with a strong taste when fresh or lightly cooked. Fully cooking. this garlic is 'claimed' to result is a buttery/nutty taste. (I have not tasted this variety on its own yet.) The storage quality of this garlic is quite nice with 6-8 months of good storage. (more updates as we harvest...)

Khabar

(availability uncertain for 2024.)

Khabar is a Marbled Purple Stripe that has a rich flavor that mellow out quickly in the mouth. Although it is not a hot garlic, it can still fill a big place in the kitchen. it is excellent in dishes that can not handle too bold a flavor, like potatoes or rice. As a native of Siberian, this garlic will handle the cold very well, and it stores well into the spring, which means it is great to stash away in a dark dry cellar. This variety will produce 4-7 large cloves in a bulb, and stores well into the winter.
